today....

I want a sewing machine. I want to make pillow cases and curtains and little girl dresses and take pictures of the little girl in the little girl dresses. and I want to make pillow cases with flowers that are a soft white with big mustard yellow flowers and paint my walls.

I'm becoming that woman
what am I going to do with myself?

Julia,
I love reading these past few posts. I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only woman feeling torn about what kind of woman I am. What are the stereotypes we deal with? What are the REAL expectations of women? Are we obligated at all to those expectations? How do we balance a desire to embrace attributes of THAT woman while still embracing a desire to contribute to the world in a different way. How do you balance the desire to be a professional and a mom? Is it possible? Does wanting to be a stay at home mom diminish the work I did in school? Does wanting to work diminish my capacity to be a good mom? Can I have both and still manage to eat dinner? Do I really want both? Can you be a feminist and still sew pillow cases and paint walls? What does it mean to be a feminist anyway? Am I really THAT woman just because I enjoy crafting? Am I just thinking way too much? Moral of the story is, it's nice to have some company in my thoughts.

You totally should! I love pillows! They are my favorite! I have this vision of having a Cozy Room in my house one day... with a wall of books, a window nook, and of course a mountain of pillows!

I'm no good with a sewing machine so I envy you. But buying them can be fun too, although not as creative, there is instant gratification of having something cute.
